Civil unrest in Philadelphia, marked by protests and looting, prompted CVS Pharmacies to lock up local stores early on Tuesday and Wednesday. With approximately 12 of its locations sustaining enough damage over the past 2 days to force them to close for repairs, the chain decided to shorten hours at the remaining open stores in the area in order to keep employees safe. Damaged stores will reopen when it becomes safe to do so. In the meantime, CVS says it is working to reroute the phone systems of the closed locations to nearby stores that are open so patients and customers do not lose access to care. The chaos in the city comes after the deadly police shooting of Walter Wallace Jr. on Monday.
