Mr. Atere underwent Redo Orthopedic surgery at Zulekha Hospital, Dubai.

Introduction

Mustapha Atere, a 45-year-old patient from Nigeria traveled to Dubai on 4th Feb 2021 for a redo orthopedic surgery to fix the nonunion of the humerus after a failed previous surgery.  He decided to get this surgery done by Dr. Rahul Shivadey, who is presently associated with Zulekha Hospital, Dubai. Mr. Atere was looking forward to a re-do surgery as he had gotten this surgery done in Nigeria earlier after suffering from an accident that fractured his upper arm. The surgery was deemed unsuccessful as the broken arm had still not fused with implants. The patient had a pleasant yet satisfying experience during the procedure and was happy with the results.

Mr. Atere chose to get this surgery done by Dr. Rahul Shivadey, MS (Ortho) with Fellowship in Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement from Uzsoki Hospital, Budapest, Hungary. He is a Specialist Orthopedic Surgeon with over 15 years of experience as a private medical practitioner, and he has also been an Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery consultant for several years now. He has done Arthroscopic knee procedures, spine surgeries for disc pathology, major bone fracture fixations, and minor surgeries.

Zulekha Hospital is a multi-specialty hospital with 32 disciplines with lots of modern facilities. The hospital is constantly adding super-specialization domains. It is a technologically advanced healthcare organization with a variety of healthcare packages that any patient can choose from. They are connected to their patients via the latest technologies such as teleconsultations, booking appointments, downloading medical reports, and more. The hospital strives to keep up with the latest developments in the healthcare arena and apply them to the benefit of their patients.

Pre-Treatment & Process

After the earlier procedure on his upper arm failed, he started to look for options abroad for a redo surgery to fix the fracture. Even after months of the previous surgery, he was still not capable of moving his arm. This is when he got through to MediGence and discussed his medical condition after he shared the recent X-ray of the arm. Mr. Atere discussed some of the options in Dubai with the team at MediGence and ultimately settled for Zulekha Hospital Dubai to get his surgery done. He stayed in the hospital for three days and during this time the pre-treatment and the procedure itself were completed. He was subjected to several tests, which gave the right picture to the Orthopedic Specialist regarding the treatment process and reconfirmed the treatment approach to fix his arm. The diagnostic tests included radiological scans, lab tests, muscle tests, flexibility, and physical examination, range of motion and stress tests, etc.

The surgery to fix the nonunion of the humerus was performed successfully by the doctor within the prescribed time limit. The patient did not suffer from any complications post-operatively.

Post Treatment

Mr. Atere stayed in Dubai for 7 to 10 Days for the entire recovery period. His postoperative stay was organized by the MediGence patient care team. The patient care team at MediGence took care of all the logistical support for the patient, including airport transfers, appointment arrangements, and hotel reservations.

The patient care team was regularly in touch with the patient postoperatively and arranged the follow-up consultation with Dr. Shivadey to make sure that he is recovering as planned.

Mr.  Atere was satisfied and happy with his overall experience with the recommended surgeon and hospital. He was really content being surrounded by exceptionally talented and skilled healthcare professionals with a generous and humane approach toward patients.
