Orthofix Medical Reports the US FDA’s Clearance of Fitbone Transport and Lengthening System


The US FDA has granted 510(k) clearance to the company’s Fitbone Transport and Lengthening System that supports and lengthens the bone in a single surgery
The device is intended for treating large bone defects in the femur and tibia due to trauma, infectious or malignant conditions
The device employs motorized technology from the Fitbone TAA Intramedullary Lengthening System. It is a minimally invasive procedure comprising a motorized intramedullary nail, receiver, and external control set that allows patients to regulate the distraction phase at home; nail and receiver are removed after treatment
