The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) has introduced two new Assessment-Based Certificate Programs: one in Hazardous Drug Management and another in Billing and Reimbursement. The Hazardous Drug Management program recognizes the achievements of PTCB-certified pharmacy technicians who have demonstrated competency in safe handling of hazardous drugs to minimize the risk of exposure to patients and staff. The Billing and Reimbursement program assesses a certified pharmacy technician’s ability to manage insurance claims, prior authorizations, and related tasks. Certified pharmacy technicians completing the program show their competency in billing practices, policies, and procedures. The programs are the third and fourth to be launched in a series of PTCB specialty certificates that include Technician Product Verification and Medication History. PTCB also plans to launch certificate programs in Controlled Substances Diversion Prevention and Immunization. The new certificates will count toward becoming an Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician.
