myPlace Health — a SCAN Group and the Commonwealth Care Alliance-backed PACE organization — has opened its first care center.
Robbie Pottharst, CEO of myPlace Health, emphasized the company’s care delivery model is far broader than this one center, however.
The company’s model is adapted to deliver care that’s customized to each of its participants’ needs.
“As the PACE model has evolved, as the industry has evolved, we know that we need to make sure that the same level of care and experiences are brought not only as a physical center, but out of the community too,” Pottharst said.
The center will be located near downtown Los Angeles, which will allow it to reach over 17,000 PACE-eligible seniors. This location was a strategic decision to increase access to care.
“We used a lot of different layers of both quantitative and qualitative assessments to look at where the greatest need is, which communities need the biggest investments in something like this and where do PACE eligibles reside,” Pottharst said.
Having SCAN Group and the Commonwealth Care Alliance as its backers has also been a key differentiator.
On its end, SCAN Group has a deep knowledge of the LA market and relationships with providers in the area, which helped myPlace Health build its network.
Plus, SCAN Group and the Commonwealth Care Alliance both have reputations for organizing and delivering high-quality care for populations very similar to myPlace Health, according to Pottharst.
“Their insights on the people, process, technology and the whole platform we built has been an incredible help,” he said.
In general, collaborations are integral to myPlace Health’s care delivery model. This means working with hospitals, community health clinics and more.
“Lots of times as PACE organizations launch, they’re competing against everyone,” Pottharst said. “They’re competing against the plans, the other providers in the market and even some of the CBOs that are doing some of the amazing work. That’s not our approach. One of our ways that we think the core mission of the PACE model is fulfilled is to form deep collaborations and partnerships with some of the organizations that are already deep in these communities.”
Looking ahead, myPlace Health is looking to continue growing. In a year, the organization has plans to open another center that will serve the southern part of LA County.
“We are in the early innings of growth for this model, and others, that are very much needed as the whole solution for aging in place, as our society continues to age,” Pottharst said.
