an abandoned nuclear site seems like a safe place to manufacture drugs..

Came across this YouTube video on Jacobus Pharmaceuticals in Plainsboro, NJ. Beyond how bizarre the story is, there’s no website or contact info for Jacobus. can’t find how to contact them for more information because they don’t have a website or any available info (seems safe)…Will be updating this as I do more digging, but if anyone has any more information, feel free to share it here.

TLDR; saved you some time with pulling together some disturbing callouts from the video:

– Located on ‘Nuclear Road” and facilities apparently used to be a nuclear reactor site https://youtu.be/_pitc12U23U?t=116

https://youtu.be/_pitc12U23U?t=143 “The facility was licensed to possess very large quantities of radioactive isotopes” “and on several occasions experienced spills of water contaminated with radioactive materials. As a resuly, this facility required extensive decontamination” UMM WHAT?

– The site was decommissioned in 1977, but a report after noted “A very limited amount of radioactive material was left in place” and “radioactivity remaining at the facility may pose some small though measurable risk.”

– 20 yrs later, in 2009, after Jacobus took the site over, a NJ state report found radiation in areas wher”radioactive material remained outside the property at “slightly elevated levels” though “well below regulatory limits” https://youtu.be/_pitc12U23U?t=202

Since they don’t have a website, you can’t just look up any info on the company or the drugs it makes here including: Paser, Ruzurgi, and Dapsone https://youtu.be/_pitc12U23U?t=234. when you Google them, instead of a site, clicking “website” links to an FDA webpage.

Other disturbing callouts: The FDA investigated and reported:

https://youtu.be/_pitc12U23U?t=255 “The facility is not maintained in a clean and sanitary condition”

-The sampling area… is not maintained in a clean and sanitary condition.”

– “Buildings used in the manufacture, processing, or holding of drug products are not maintained in a clean and sanitary condition.”

– “…equipment used in manufacturing of drug products are not maintained in a state of repair.

– “Procedures for cleaning equipment used during the manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients are not followed.”

https://youtu.be/_pitc12U23U?t=281

– “I observed excessive white residue”

– “I observed what appeared to be brown residue”

– “I observed unidentified blackresidue”

https://youtu.be/_pitc12U23U?t=288

– “I observed… leaking water from the outside of the facility onto the floors and walls of this sampling area”

– “foliage in the warehouse.”

As recently as 2018, an FDA report noted multiple deficiencies such as inadequate cleaning procedures with dirty equipment labeled as “Clean and Ready for use”

– The company says that’s all in the past and they have a clean bill of health from the FDA And radiation? They say the site is “perfectly safe.”

– And the dome that used to house a nuclear reactor, They say it’s only used for equipment storage
