Automated pharmacy bill signed into law

Florida recently rolled out a new law allowing pharmacies to dispense certain prescription drugs through an automated dispensing machine. This technology is already used in long-term care facilities, hospices, and prisons, and it will now be extended for use outside of institutional settings. “I am grateful for everyone who worked so hard to get this legislation all the way through the process,” said the bill’s sponsor, State Rep. Matt Willhite (D-District 86). “With the passage of this bill, we hope to expand an individual’s access to their prescription medication.” The machines will only dispense generic drugs, he noted.
