CVS Health plans to invest more than $8 million in a new 116-unit affordable housing complex in Orlando, FL, and expand its free preventive health screening program in the city. The Fairlawn Village development is part of Orlando’s Mercy Drive Vision Plan. Data compiled as part of that plan indicate approximately 83% of Mercy Road area residents identify as African American, and about almost one-half of the area’s households are below the poverty income threshold. CVS has committed nearly $600 million over 5 years to address racial inequity and social determinants of health in Black communities. The development will include three buildings, a community center, playgrounds, on-site laundry facilities and onsite management offices. Additionally, the company plans a 2021 expansion to Orlando of its no-cost preventive screening program, Project Health, which offers a range of free biometric screenings at CVS locations. After the screening, participants receive an individual health access plan with suggestions related to clinical targets for screening measures as well as nutrition and fitness. CVS will hold Project Health events at select CVS Pharmacy locations in areas of greater Orlando with higher populations of uninsured and underinsured people.
