Before the calendar turned to 2023, Help at Home was already one of the largest home care providers in Pennsylvania.
This week, the Chicago-based company doubled down on the Keystone state with its most recent acquisition. It is set to now be four times larger than the second biggest operator in Pennsylvania, according to Help at Home.
It has acquired Open Systems Healthcare, expanding its reach in Pennsylvania and entering Delaware for the first time.
“By choosing to partner with like-minded home care companies like Open Systems, we’re continuing our commitment and our caring for the caregiver culture,” Josh Drebes, regional leader for Help at Home, told Home Health Care News. “Equally important is our ability to leverage and scale our expertise to offer in-home care solutions to more and more aging seniors and underserved, dual-eligible populations to help them age in place in their homes.”
Open Systems provides in-home care services in 68 counties across Pennsylvania. Through its Wilmington branch, Open Systems serves the New Castle and Kent counties in Delaware.
With the acquisition, Help at Home will add about 1,500 clients and over 100 caregivers to its company. Now Help at Home has over 200 brand locations in 13 states.
Many of Help at Home’s administrative staff members in Pennsylvania started as caregivers, Drebes said. Having a presence in the state for over 17 years has helped the company grow and continue its commitment to the needs of seniors in underserved communities, he added.
“With Delaware, entering into a new market with proximity close to Pennsylvania is a natural fit for us,” Drebes said. “We’re excited about the opportunity to bring in-home personal care programs to Delaware, including our coordinated care options to seniors.”
Help at Home will continue to grow through acquisitions in 2023.
Through inorganic and organic growth strategies, Drebes said a focus will be on Help at Home’s core markets like Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois and New York.
Other “growth markets” Help at Home will be keeping an eye on include Georgia, Michigan and Ohio.
