December 3 marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This year´s theme is “Fighting for rights in the post-COVID era” since people with disabilities are among the most affected populations during the pandemic.

Eighty-seven million people in Europe experience some form of disability. This figure will rise in the near future due to clear demographic trends like the aging of the European population.

While disability can correlate with disadvantage, not all people with disabilities are equally disadvantaged. Much depends on their access to health coverage, education, and a healthy and safe working environment.
