Starting on February 8, 275,000 more people in the state of Louisiana will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Gov. John Bel Edwards has expanded eligibility to those aged 65 years and older, law enforcement, and election workers. “The books are filling up everywhere, the schedules are filling up everywhere, it’s a massive amount of people,” said Marla Gibbens, owner of Bocage Pharmacy in Baton Rouge. Those now able to get their vaccines may have to wait a bit though, with some pharmacies in the state cutting down doses for cost reasons. Louisiana is expected to receive another shipment of vaccines, with supplies expected to jump around 5%. With the expanded priority group, nearly 1.2 million Louisiana residents are estimated to have access to the vaccine.
