Mahrus Underwent EDAMS in NP Istanbul Brain Hospital, Turkey

Introduction

Bangladesh’s 7-year-old Mahrus Hussain traveled to Turkey with his parents for medical treatment on June 14, 2021. He had been suffering from Moyamoya disease for some time. Moyamoya disease is a chronic and progressive condition of the arteries in the brain. People with moyamoya disease have narrowing of these blood vessels that leads to blockages and can eventually cause ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, and seizures. The symptoms that the child was showing included seizures. The seizures caused changes in the behavior, movements, and in levels of consciousness.

The specialists recommended Encephaloduroarteriomyosynangiosis (EDAMS) surgery for the ailment. Encephaloduroarteriomyosynangiosis (EDAMS) is a surgical procedure performed most commonly in children with moyamoya disease or less commonly in individuals with intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD).

The queries of the patient’s parents were answered and they were given information about his health by the team of specialists. The patient’s parents also had an in-depth conversation with his Neurologist about the treatments he has been receiving, if any, the status of his disease in relation to the treatment, and the way ahead in terms of recovery. The doctor and the healthcare team answered their queries. Then, as recommended by the doctor, the patient underwent all the required tests as well as examinations in preparation for the procedure.

Post-Treatment
