Mahrus Underwent EDAMS in NP Istanbul Brain Hospital, Turkey

Introduction

Bangladesh’s 7-year-old Mahrus Hussain traveled to Turkey with his parents for medical treatment on June 14, 2021. He had been suffering from Moyamoya disease for some time. Moyamoya disease is a chronic and progressive condition of the arteries in the brain. People with moyamoya disease have narrowing of these blood vessels that leads to blockages and can eventually cause ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, and seizures. The symptoms that the child was showing included seizures. The seizures caused changes in the behavior, movements, and in levels of consciousness.

The specialists recommended Encephaloduroarteriomyosynangiosis (EDAMS) surgery for the ailment. The parents of the patient reached out to our patient advisory team who understand his symptoms, diagnosis, etc. They shared his reports, a list of medicines. We discussed the case with top neurosurgeons and sent her the treatment plan. After a round of discussions, the parents of the patient decided to go ahead with Dr. Professor Mustafa Bozbuga / Dr. Baris Metin at NP Istanbul Brain Hospital, Turkey. It is a world-class hospital specializing in brain-related health conditions and issues. As proven by the quality of patient care, healthcare delivery, and safety, modern technology combined with experienced specialists and expertise from internationally trained medical teams has set new benchmarks in healthcare in Turkey.

MediGence stepped in to assist the patient and his parents throughout the procedure. MediGence assisted the patient with the entire process, including the stay, hospital transfer, airport pick-up, and all consultation and hospital appointments.

Encephaloduroarteriomyosynangiosis (EDAMS) is a surgical procedure performed most commonly in children with moyamoya disease or less commonly in individuals with intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD).

Mahrus had a counseling appointment with the Neurosurgeon- Dr. Professor Mustafa Bozbuga, before being admitted to the hospital. The queries of the patient’s parents were answered and they were given information about his health by the team of specialists. The patient’s parents also had an in-depth conversation with his Neurologist about the treatments he has been receiving, if any, the status of his disease in relation to the treatment, and the way ahead in terms of recovery. The doctor and the healthcare team answered their queries. Then, as recommended by the doctor, the patient underwent all the required tests as well as examinations in preparation for the procedure.
