A new EU Online interactive Risk Assessment (OiRA) tool will help to assess and manage work-related risks in agriculture. The tool focuses on animal farming as well as fruit and vegetable cultivation.

Plenty of risks in the agricultural sector are related to accidents, such as falling from heights and working with heavy machinery. Proper risk assessment is of vital importance to improve the protection of workers and save lives in one of the sectors with the highest fatality rates. Manual handling and exposure to chemicals are also among the many risks agricultural workers face on a daily basis as well as risks related to installations and confined spaces, psychosocial risks, and lone working.

The new OiRA tool provides risk statements and pre-defined solutions for risk management in the sector.

The tool has been developed by the EU Social Partners copa-cogeca and EFFAT with the support of EU-OSHA.

It is officially launched at a webinar on 9 March.
