Introduction
A 55-year-old from Ethiopia, Yohannes Zewdie Seifu, was experiencing pain in his hip joint and difficulty in mobility and had been advised to undergo hip replacement surgery by his local doctors. He was willing to travel to Turkey for the procedure. This is when he decided to consult with an Orthopedic surgeon and decided to go to the Istinye University Hospital for the treatment. Mr. Yohannes Zewdie Seifu traveled to Turkey on 30th September 2021 and stayed in the hospital for 3 to 4 Days for Unilateral Total Hip Replacement Surgery. The patient traveled alone to Turkey, a transcontinental country present primarily in Anatolia in Western Asia, with a portion of the Balkans in Southeast Europe known for not just its culture, history, and architecture but its healthcare infrastructure as well. This in addition to its excellent healthcare ecosystem makes it a strong destination for medical travelers. Istinye University Hospital, a member of the Liv Hospital Group, was founded in 2016. The patient chose to be treated by Dr. Haluk Cabuk, a renowned orthopedic surgeon. He has worked as an orthopedic surgeon in Turkey for almost 15 years. Arthroplasty, Meniscus Tear, Rotator Sheath Tear, Knee surgeries, and shoulder surgeries are among Dr. Haluk Cabuk’s most common treatments and procedures. His professional qualification and specialization are from Private Adana Science High School, Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine (Eng), İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, Department of Orthopedics, and Traumatology-Specialization.
Pre-Treatment & Process
As he was being admitted to the hospital for the surgery, Mr. Yohannes Zewdie Seifu was counseled by the doctor as to the preparedness and the risks involved. This was important considering the patient had been looking forward to undergoing Right Total Hip Replacement surgery. He also underwent the required tests which deemed him fit for the procedure. A medical evaluation, blood samples, EKG, stress test, chest X-ray, and urine sample were all part of the testing. The tests were necessary to determine whether the patient is ready for surgery and whether he had any issues that require particular attention before proceeding. Post this the patient underwent a successful Unilateral Total Hip Replacement Surgery.
Post Treatment
There were no post-procedural complications for the patient and the surgery can be termed a complete success. The patient was helped with the travel post-surgery from the hospital to the place of residence for the post-procedure stay (as advised by the doctor) that he spent as a recovery period in the country. The total time spent by the patient in the country was 20 days including the hospital stay. Mr. Yohannes Zewdie Seifu made sure to be present for the follow-up consultations post the procedure which was organized by MediGence. The organization helped him with travel, transfer, and accommodation arrangements.
