The current EU strategic framework on health and safety at work 2021-2027 builds on previous strategies that have seen substantial improvements in occupational safety and health (OSH) that achieved an overall reduction of about 70% in OSH-related fatal accidents between 1994 and 2020.

The Vision Zero strategy goes one step further: enterprises and other organisations that adopt the strategy have a principal and underlying belief that fatalities, accidents, and ill heath at work are preventable.
