Occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals and their practices have had to change with the times to remain relevant. A new discussion paper examines the role of prevention services in supporting compliance with OSH standards in the European Union. It identifies gaps in knowledge and key issues for professional practice in OSH, along with the challenges for policy and research.

There is variation in the experience of OSH services between Member States, based on analyses of the European Survey of Enterprises on New and Emerging Risks (ESENER). Challenges include service quality and a shift from independence towards companies’ vested interests.
