CDC reports that 16 people have become ill and one person has died due to an E. coli O157 outbreak linked to an unknown food source. The outbreak strain has been detected in Arkansas, Oklahoma, New York, Virginia, and Washington, with the most people affected in Arkansas and Oklahoma. “CDC is concerned about the growing number of severe illnesses and hospitalizations in this outbreak,” the agency said on its website. “If you have E. coli symptoms, talk to your health care provider and report your illness to your local health department.” The agency was first notified of the outbreak on December 23.
