Psychosocial risks and work-related stress are among the most challenging issues in occupational safety and health. They impact significantly on the health of individuals, organisations and national economies.

As part of the ‘National Week of Stress At Work’ in the Netherlands, two events organised by our Dutch Focal point took place designed to raise awareness of the topic and present practical tips and solutions.

In the Hague, a workshop took place to test an organisational structure set up to tackle psychosocial workload with employer and employee representatives, as well as other professionals closely involved with advising on the topic of psychosocial workload and its consequences.

During the workshop, primary, secondary and tertiary prevention was discussed as well as the roles of workers, managers and human resource workers in tackling work pressure, undesirable behaviour, absenteeism and return-to-work. Different forms of intervention were also presented, such as providing information, training, and tools that can be used.

Meanwhile in Amsterdam, a digital masterclass took place to raise awareness of the importance of mental resilience in coping with stress at work and to identify possible improvements that can be made in the workplace. Experts explained what mental strength is, how you can train your mental strength and how to apply it in your workplace. They also provided practical tips and concrete examples.
