The Czech Republic holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU from 1 July to 31 December 2022. It takes over at a time when Europe must overcome not only the COVID-19 pandemic, but also the consequences of the recent Russian military aggression against Ukraine. Other members of the current Presidency trio are France and Sweden.

The motto of the Czech Presidency “Europe as a Task: Rethink, Rebuild, Repower” is a testimony and reminder that we all need to work continuously towards a modern and functioning Europe. The motto expresses a commitment to strengthen common freedom, responsibility, security and prosperity.

The Presidency puts emphasis on managing the refugee crisis and Ukraine’s post-war recovery, energy security, strengthening Europe’s defence capabilities and cyberspace security, strategic resilience of the European economy and resilience of democratic institutions.
