Introduction
A teenager from Ethiopia, 17 years old Tsegaamlak Tesemma had been suffering from a cardiac condition from birth, also referred to as a congenital defect. A Congenital heart defect is also known as a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) or an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). An Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) is characterised by a hole in the wall which lies right between the two upper chambers of the heart (the atria). The patient had an Atrial Septal Defect or ASD which in many cases either do not create any issue or close on their own. After trying various things, the patient and her family finally got through to MediGence professionals who reassured them and provided the right assistance. Pre Treatment & Process
If the hole is too big to close with the catheterization or is in the wrong place for it, then an ASD surgery is performed. Minimally invasive heart surgery is efficient and completely safe. Ms. Tesemma was a chosen candidate for this procedure owing to the continuance of this issue.
Post getting admitted to the hospital, the patient was apprised of the preparatory tests, the complications and risks involved, the procedure timeline, stay in the hospital, and the post-treatment things to be careful of and follow up care, consultations involved. Then the scheduled surgery began with anesthesia being given to the patient post which a tiny 4-6 cm incision was made between ribs to perform the surgery. The surgery took about two hours and was a success.
Post Treatment
After the observation period of a couple of days, Ms. Tsegaamlak Tesemma was discharged from the hospital and she underwent the 3 week recovery period. During this time MediGence helped the patient and their attendant organise the follow-up consultation.
