A pilot program began vaccinating Maryland residents this week at 35 community pharmacies in underserved areas. Gov. Larry Hogan said that as of Wednesday morning, Maryland providers had administered 420,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines and are now averaging about 20,000 vaccinations per day. Starting this week, some of the doses were administered at pharmacies inside some grocery stores. The governor visited the District Heights Giant Food pharmacy in Prince George’s County, which is part of Maryland’s pharmacy network of COVID-19 vaccinators. The program involves 22 Giant stores, 3 Martin’s locations, and 10 Walmarts in the state, and it will expand to 16 new locations at Safeway stores and Rite-Aids for a total of 51 participating pharmacies. Hogan said that when Maryland’s supply from the federal government increases, so will the number of participating pharmacies. “When we get enough supply of vaccines, we’re going to have them at every single pharmacy and every doctor’s office, everywhere,” Hogan said.
